I often get asked what made me come up with the idea of adaptive clothing - the answer is simple - necessity. It amazed me how for years the best solutions for dressing were fascinating contraptions for fastening buttons and pulling up socks, but no one had thought of simply altering the clothing itself! This made me think, ‘There’s got to be another way!’ So after some intensive research, I began to put together designs that could resolve some of the difficulties faced with dressing by people with disabilities. The other way... So after trialling my different ideas and designs, you will notice that our clothes are a little different. They are designed with practicality in mind. Our clothes overcome the limitations of conventional clothing by replacing fastenings such as buttons and zips with easier options such as magnets and other innovative fastenings, to enable the wearer to get dressed more easily, allowing them to be more independent. But it doesn’t stop there. We have also given consideration to carers who can sometimes have difficulties dressing other individuals. In these instances, we have developed a fantastic range of clothes the allow carers to dress another person with ease. When we showcased our clothing at the College of Occupational Therapists' annual conference last year, we had no idea that we were going to be received with such excitement and relief that finally there are clothing choices to help people with physical limitations. This confirmed what I thought from the beginning and Adaptawear was born! At Adaptawear we have loads of ideas…… Our ideas are constantly evolving and we are in constant touch with our customers who are our greatest inspiration. Your kind comments of encouragement and clever ideas are allowing us to provide even better clothing solutions, so keep them coming! We hope that we can continue to bring you fantastic clothes that are manufactured to the highest standard with customer service that is second to none!Kavita Chauhan
